Update 1/31/25: Detectives investigating death as homicide after shooting victim dies

Gresham Detectives are releasing the identity of the victim of a shooting after he died as a result of his injuries.

On Monday, Jan. 20, just before 3:30 am, Martin Jose Gutierrez, 28, was shot in the 2800 block of NE Rene Avenue. On Wednesday, Jan. 29, while still in the hospital, Gutierrez died from his injuries. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death a homicide by gunfire. Gutierrez' family has been notified of his death and is requesting privacy at this time.

The East County Major Crimes Team (MCT) was activated and Gresham detectives are continuing to lead the investigation with their MCT partners.

1/21/25: Gresham Police investigating shooting

Detectives are investigating an early morning Northeast neighborhood shooting.

Officers with the Gresham Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 2800 block of NE Rene Ave., just before 3:30 am on Jan. 20, 2024. They found one person who had been shot and determined the suspect/s fled the scene prior to their arrival. Officers and medical personnel provided treatment at the scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is being treated for life-threatening injuries. 

Detectives with the Gresham Police Department were assigned to investigate the shooting.
