Pedestrian struck by motorist dies at hospital

A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle has died after initially being transported to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Gresham Police responded to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle in the 3800 block of NE Hogan Road, shortly after noon on Wednesday, Feb. 20. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital as a "trauma entry" with an apparent injury to his leg.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. A member of the East Metro Vehicular Crimes Team (VCT) responded to the crash. The investigation revealed the collision was at a relatively slow speed and the driver showed no signs of impairment. The driver was cited for Careless Driving contributing to an accident involving a vulnerable user of a public way. This is a Class A violation that could lead to enhanced penalties.

Investigators later learned the pedestrian died at the hospital. The name of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of the family.
