Council elections
The next scheduled Gresham City Council election will be held during the November 3, 2026, general election and will feature the Mayor and Council positions 2, 4 and 6. Those elected in November will serve four-year terms beginning January 1, 2027, and ending December 31, 2030.
November 3 general election key dates for candidates
- January 1: First day to file nomination papers and petitions. Note: The City Charter allows filing to begin on January 1, while the County’s first day to file for office is June 3.
- Residency requirement: Candidates must have established residency within the city of Gresham on or before November 3, 2025, to be eligible for the 2026 general election.
- July 3: Suggested deadline to submit signatures for verification to the City elections officer.
- August 18: Filing deadline for elected incumbent candidates.
- August 20: Last day to file nomination papers and petitions. Applies to new/non-incumbent candidates and appointed incumbent candidates.
- August 25: Last day for candidates to file voter pamphlet statements with the County.
- August 28: Last day for candidates to withdraw.
Other important election dates
- October 13: Last day to register to vote.
- October 14-20: Ballots are mailed out.
- November 3: Election Day

To qualify to run for Gresham City Council, you must be 18 years of age by the date of election and have resided in Gresham during the 12 months immediately preceding the election.
All successful candidates are required by law to file an Annual Verified Statement of Economic Interest form (Oregon Revised Statute 244.050), which is distributed to elected officials by the State of Oregon in March each year in office.
