Prescription Drugs

Never flush prescription drugs down the toilet or pour them down the drain.

Free disposal for Oregon residents

The Oregon Drug Take-Back Program provides two convenient and free ways to safely dispose of unwanted household medicines.

If no drug collection program is available in your area:

  • Take your prescription drugs out of their original containers and mix drugs with an undesirable substance, such as cat litter, coffee grounds, sawdust or any other material that makes it less appealing for pets and children to eat.
  • Place the mixture into a disposable container with a lid, such as an empty margarine tub, or into a sealable bag and place in trash.
  • Empty plastic drug containers can go in the recycling bin if they are 6 ounces or larger.
  • Remove or destroy any personal information, including prescription number, on the empty containers by covering it with black permanent marker or scratching it off.
