How to Adopt a Drain

1

Sign-up to Adopt a Storm Drain.

Individuals, community organizations and businesses can participate. Sign up at Adopt-a-drain.org

2

Keep your storm drain clear.

Use a broom or rake to sweep leaves, trash and other debris off the drain surface year-round.

3

Track your impact.

Enter the estimated total of debris you collect into your online account so we can track results.

The program is free

The first 75 participants receive a welcome packet that includes:

  • Welcome and safety tips.
  • Tote and drawstring bag.
  • A beautiful sign for your yard.

Why get involved?

  • Community volunteers play an important role by keeping storm drains clear of trash, debris and other pollutants.
  • Caring for storm drains prevents street flooding that can cause safety issues for pedestrians, cyclists and cars.
  • Clearing storm drains reduces pollution and improves water quality for fish, birds and humans.
  • Tree debris covering a storm drain.
  • Man raking tree debris away from the storm drain.
  • Man raking tree debris away from a storm drain to add to yard debris bin.

1 of 3
  • Tree debris can clog storm drains and create street flooding.

  • Lead by example. Let friends and neighbors know about your commitment and, if they ask, tell them about small things they can do at home to prevent water pollution.
