About the art in Ikanum

Art in Ikanum includes a main gathering circle depicting the nine tribes of Oregon on a map of the state with additional depictions of native wildlife, regional rivers and mountains.

A series of metal plates throughout Ikanum explore concepts of Strength/ čanupáawit [Sahaptin]; Stewardship/ K'wapa [Chinook Wawa]; Nurture/ Kloshe nanitch [Chinook Wawa]; and Wisdom/ kʷyáamt [Sahaptin].

The art in Ikanum was developed by the architecture firm PLACE, with input from Native American communities in the Gresham-Portland area, specifically through collaboration with the Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest (NARA Northwest).
